Will the TV bubble burst due to audiences facing too many choices? How will we create sustainability in the industry as well as high quality drama in the years to come? As we are entering a new decade, which are the drama series the audience will embrace in the years to come? TV Drama Vision takes a closer look at current global trends and with the help of some of the very best analysts and experts we hope to shed some light on the future together with the industry.  

Presenting two inspiring days with the talent and key executives creating today’s TV drama landscape. More than 60 guests will take the stage and close to 40 upcoming series will be presented making this the best networking opportunity in the region.

Welcome to TV Drama Vision 2020

Opening speaker: Vincent F. Hendricks

We are delighted to present this year’s opening speaker: Vincent F. Hendricks, Professor of formal philosophy at Copenhagen University and the Director of the Center for Information and Bubble Studies. Vincent will open TV Drama Vision with a speech focusing on filter bubbles, sustainability and the model of a liberal democracy. Presented in collaboration with Copenhagen Film Fund.

France’s Finest – Caroline Benjo and Carole Scotta

Haut et Court is one of France’s most successful and influential independent producers and distributors, with credits ranging from Ma Vie en rose and The Class to The Lobster and Rocks. They have recently also carved a space in the prestigious high-end TV world with shows like The Returned, The Last Panthers and Sorrentino’s The Young Pope and The New Pope. Producers and company co-heads Caroline Benjo and Carole Scotta discuss working between cinema and episodic work, mining the current trends in French TV, and collaborating with international partners. Moderated by Wendy Mitchell.

Facts and Insights: Guy Bisson on global drama trends 

In a future-oriented session leading market analyst Guy Bisson, Executive Director at Ampere Analysis, will give us the ten global trends that will shape the near future. After his keynote he will be interviewed on-stage by Johanna Koljonen, media analyst and author of the Göteborg Film Festival’s Nostradamus Report about the future of the screen industries.

European broadcasters, commissioners and producers are still champions of some of the greatest shows on screen. With increasing production volumes and major global competition, how do we create successful high-end drama? How can we optimize collaborations in a competitive world while nurturing talent and keeping our European independence?
Simone Emmelius, SVP International Fiction – Coproduction & Acquisition ZDF, Lars Blomgren, Head of Scripted EMEA Endemole Shine Group, Dariuzs Jablonski, producer/director, Anna Croneman, Head of Drama SVT and Christian Rank, Head of Drama DR takes the stage for an in-depth panel discussion moderated by Johanna Koljonen.

Focus on ZDF: Meet Simone Emmelius & Frank Seyberth

Meet Simone Emmelius, SVP International Fiction – Coproduction & Acquisition, and Frank Seyberth, Commissioner, Series and International Co-Productions, from ZDF. In a changing environment, where Local has become the new Global, Germany is a huge market for European drama series. Scandinavian drama is now competing with talent and success from other territories. Together with moderator Johanna Koljonen, this prestige panel will tell us more about the German market and elaborate on their future plans. 

Simply cash or creative resources – the state of production incentives 

Six countries in the Nordic and Baltic region provide tax or cash rebates for productions. Petri Kemppinen, Film and TV consultant takes a look at the different models and discusses impact on producer’s choice, economy and local industry development with hands-on experts.

New and upcoming Nordic Drama Series

We are delighted to present a wide range of upcoming drama series from the Nordics. Works in Progress of Dreaming of England (Art&Bob for SVT), Belzebubs (Pyjama Films for YLE) and My Funeral (Glassriver for Simmin), a case study of Swedish Beartown (Filmlance for HBO). In addition, we showcase the region by presenting projects in development and a first glimpse of new drama series.

On the Horizon: Nordic broadcasters

We welcome key content players from the Nordics on stage to present new and upcoming series, the stories they are hoping to find and their plans for the future. This year we meet Katrine Vogelsang, Head of Fiction at TV2 Denmark, Josefine Tengblad, Head of Production and Kristina Börjeson, Head of Production/Administration at TV4/C more, Ivar Köhn, Head of Drama at NRK, Camilla Rydbacken, VP Nordic Scripted Content and Fredrik Ljungberg, VP International Scripted Content at Nordic Entertainment Group, Anna Croneman, Head of Programme Film & TV drama at SVT and Jarmo Lampela, Head of Drama at YLE Drama.

European Highlights

TV Drama Visions takes a wider look across Europe. The talented producers Olesya Lukyanenko  and  Kateryna Vyshnevska  will present a case study of the newly released Ukrainian noir series  Hide and Seek, as well as their upcoming sci-fi coming-of-age series  Alive. We also welcome the Bulgarian series  Babyland, the Austrian series Snow and from across the Baltic sea, we present the Estonian cyber-crime series  The Deep. 

Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize — meet the nominees and jury

Five new Nordic drama series compete for the NOK 200,000 Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2020. At TV Drama Vision we will meet our prestigious jury as well as the nominated screenwriters on stage to present their series and talk about the art of writing a successful drama. This year’s Nordisk Film & TV Fond jury consists of acclaimed Norwegian actor  Jakob Oftebro , Swedish actor  Moa Gammel, Polish award-winning producer and director Dariusz Jabłoński and Norwegian journalist  Cecilie Asker (Aftenposten).

Nostradamus @ TV Drama Vision: Summary and sneak peek

Media analyst Johanna Koljonen will give a summary and analyze this year’s TV Drama Vision followed by a sneak peek of the upcoming 2020 Nostradamus report.
