In 2019, Göteborg Film Festival initiate a new prize, Dragon Award Best Acting. The award will go to the best acting contribution in the section Nordic Competition and is gender-neutral.
Over the years, Göteborg Film Festival has awarded countless directors, screenwriters and cinematographers. This year, for the first time the festival will hand out an acting-award, Dragon Award Best Acting. The prize goes to the person who has done the greatest contribution in any of the films that compete in Nordic Competition.
– Since there are such fantastic actors here in the Nordic countries, we think it is time to initiate a prize for them, says the festival’s Artistic Director, Jonas Holmberg.
In contrast to most of the acting-awards, this is gender neutral and will hence not be divided between respectively a male and female category.
– Actually, it is strange that not all acting awards are gender neutral. No one would ever think of dividing the director’s category based on gender. It is more reasonable to compare Liv Ullmann to Erland Josephson than to Goldie Hawn.
Dragon Award Best Acting will be handed out on the Dragon Award gala on the 2nd of February. See all nominees in Nordic Competition here.
